Dark tourism: a bibliometric review of the past, present and future trends

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to critically review the knowledge structure of dark tourism. It is an emerging tourism attraction, but one that has received less attention in the literature. The fundamental difference between dark tourism and other forms of tourism is the deeply rooted association with death and mortality, which is considered a distinctive element of the tourist attraction. Despite the role that gloom tourism plays in the economic development of tourism, its function as an economic resource for the local community needs to be further explored and evaluated. With this in mind, this study conducts a science mapping based on a bibliometric analysis to uncover the knowledge structure of the phenomenon based on recognized publications in the field. Methodology/Design/Approach – Drawing from the opportunity of dark tourism, this paper analyzes the knowledge structure based on two bibliometric analyses to uncover the past, present and future trends in dark tourism. 592 journal publications were extracted and analyzed from the Web of Science (WoS) core collection database. Findings – The results indicate that the clusters that emerged from the analyzes focus on the foundations of dark tourism, motivations for visiting dark sites, and specific interest in war/ battlefield tourism. This research shows that dark tourism benefits each segment of society in different ways by making it possible to experience the pain and suffering of the dead, the dark and agonizing events of past generations. Implications for theory and practice are discussed to further develop the field into a sustainable tourism segment. Knowledge sharing in health Community of Practice (CoP) and Online Health Communities (OHCs): A bibliometric analysis

This study aims to provide a scientific mapping based on a bibliographic database of knowledge sharing in the health community of practice (CoP) and online health communities (OHCs). These online platforms have provided an efficient means for members to share best practices, expertise, and information on health-related matters and acquire knowledge in the fast-moving health and medical field. Applying a bibliometric method, this study contributes to the body of knowledge concerning health CoP function, capacity, and contribution. This study tends to uncover past themes (citation analysis), current themes (co-citation analysis), and predict trends (co-word analysis) on health CoP and OHCs perspectives. Findings indicate the imperative role of CoP in the field, mainly due to the rapid development of sophisticated tacit knowledge on complicated health issues and unpredictable diseases affecting public health. Implications on theory and managerial aspect to strengthen the function of CoP in providing optimum health service to the public is discussed

Social media in disaster management: Review of the literature and future trends through bibliometric analysis

This study provides a science map on social media application in disaster management through bibliometric analysis. Citation, co-citation, and co-words analysis were applied to identify influential social media publications in disaster management, evaluate the prospective evolution of social media and disaster management themes, and predict future research streams based on social media in disaster management. 862 journal publications were retrieved from the Web of Science, with 33,758 cited references. From the co-citation analysis, 3 clusters were classified: (1) Twitter in disaster management, (2) post-disaster recovery process, and (3) information and knowledge sharing, while the co-word analysis also produced 3 clusters (1) social media communication in disaster events, (2) social media and disaster preparedness, and (3) social media and disaster recovery. Furthermore, three research streams were discussed through inductive interpretation from the three analyses performed. This study provides theoretical and practical understanding to relevant stakeholders facing disaster through social media applications

Cyberbullying in higher education: A review of the literature based on bibliometric analysis

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to review cyberbullying incidents among students in higher education institutions (HEIs). Cyberbullying has become a threat to students' wellbeing as it penetrates one life due to the pervasive availability of digital technologies. Design/methodology/approach: Through a bibliometric analysis, this study analyzes 361 journal publications from the Web of Science (WoS) based on bibliographic coupling and co-word analysis. Findings: Significant themes were found related to cyberbullying in HEIs, particularly related to the impact and determinants of cyberbullying on students. Bibliographic coupling produces three clusters on the current research fronts, while co-word analysis produces four clusters on the prediction of future trends. Implications of this phenomenon warrant comprehensive intervention by the HEIs management to dampen its impact on students' wellbeing. Findings would enhance the fundamental understanding through science mapping on the prevalent and potential incidence of cyberbullying. Practical implications: Crucial insights will benefit the government, HEIs’ management, educators, scholars, policymakers and parents to overcome this dreadful phenomenon of cyberbullying. Several managerial interventions and mitigation strategies are proposed to reduce and control the occurrence of cyberbullying. Originality/value: This study presents a bibliometric review to uncover the knowledge structure of cyberbullying studies in HEIs

Partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) in knowledge management studies: Knowledge sharing in virtual communities

Partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) has been used as a popular research method in various disciplines, including knowledge management (KM). This paper reviews how PLS-SEM has been used in KM studies, which focus on knowledge sharing in the context of virtual community (VC). The review includes 30 articles published from 2007 to 2019. The review discusses the reasons behind the use of the PLS-SEM, data and model characteristics, evaluation of measurement, and structural model in these studies. This paper also provides guidance on how PLS-SEM can be better used and applied in future research

A review of knowledge hiding in team: Evaluation of critical research streams

Purpose; The purpose of this paper is to systematically review knowledge hiding (KH) behaviors in the team context. KH behavior is regarded as unethical and antisocial behavior, detrimental to team development and performance. The nature of its existence should not be allowed in team activities. Design/methodology/approach: Applying a systematic literature review, this study investigated 39 related quantitative studies on KH behavior of employees in team and group contexts. This study discusses the fundamental concept of KH, analyzes current research findings, identifies relevant gaps in the team and group context and sheds light on future direction. Findings: Findings observed that the KH phenomena had gained the interest of scholars since the year 2010. Five main research streams identified in this systematic review are role of leadership, team creativity and innovation, underlying theory, multilevel modeling and KH scale. Research limitations/implications: The value of this paper is subjected to the specific notion of KH in team background where knowledge sharing should have been promoted instead of KH. This systematic review serves as insight and recognition on the importance of mitigating KH in team. Existing current literature, future research work and trends of KH in the organization may benefit from this new and anticipated behavior within the knowledge management field. Originality/value: To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this review is the first to review KH behavior in the team context

Sustainable tourism and sustainable development goals (SDGs): a state‑of‑the‑art review of past, present, and future trends

This study aims to review the role of sustainable tourism with the sustainable development goals (SDGs). The introduction of SDGs in 2015 has made sustainable tourism much more manageable within a structured and systematic set of goals. A bibliometric approach was applied based on 479 journal publications from the Web of Science database. The study explores the knowledge structure based on past influential publications (document citation analysis), current knowledge structure (co-citation analysis), and future trends (co-occurrence of keywords analysis) on SDGs implementation in the tourism and hospitality industry. Findings suggested that there are several significant clusters based on the three analyses. Theoretical and managerial implications were discussed

E-learning in higher education institutions during COVID-19 pandemic: Current and future trends through bibliometric analysis

The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive review of e-learning in higher education institutions (HEIs) during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study presents current research issues and future progress in HEIs e-learning in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic from 2019 to 2020 through the Web of Science (WOS) database. The analysis comprises citation analysis, co-citation analysis, and co-occurrence of keyword analysis. This bibliometric review provides essential insight for researchers to identify the most influential publications and determine the fundamental structure. Furthermore, this review facilitates future studies on the influential research trends and emerging topics. Findings present several streams of discussion based on the clusters identified from the three analyses. Subsequently, the theoretical and methodological implications on the emergence of new sub-fields and interesting future works in connection with e-learning in HEIs are presented. The outcome would aid scholars and practitioners in advancing the technology and aid towards e-learning in HEIs to ensure students' education can be sustained in the state of emergency
